A Penang boy from Madras Lane

Growing up there from infancy to age 17 ensured that he knew the streets of Penang like the back of his hand.

That's where he learnt to speak, joined the family of eventually nine siblings, attended and became Head Boy at Methodist Boys' School, and ate tapioca and almost lost his head literally in the school yard during Japanese Occupation, before moving back south with the family.

Those were the Madras Lane Methodist Church days.
